Join in the Hum

Whether you chant it as ‘Aum’ or ‘Om’ or you just purse your lips together and hum, the power it has is magical, mystical and mysterious to the uninitiated.

Intuitive and transcended beings, the sages, the yogis, those on the path of understanding the energetic realm of the human, those on the path of understanding the effects of sound on human life and beyond live by it. The mystery unfolds deeper and deeper realms.

Rather than believe in my words or on any piece of information, why don’t you try it for yourself? Experiential learning is always what stays forever. Moreover, experiencing the power of this simple ‘chant’ may just alter your physical reality!! There are no downsides to doing it. You can only and only benefit….or at worst remain unmoved and unchanged. So be it.

So where should you start?

Plan a time of day which you can dedicate every single day. A 15-minute slot. Keep to the same time slot for maximum impact.

Choose a quiet spot where you can sit comfortably without any interference for the period of your practice.

Close your eyes gently. Watch your in-breath and out-breath for one or two breaths. With conscious effort deepen and soften your breath. Breathe in deeper, right down till your abdomen has expanded fully. Pause. Very gently start exhaling till the abdomen compresses and the chest swells up. Repeat twice more.

Now, start the loud chanting using either A-U-M or O-O-M or just the hum. Inhale deep. Pause. Start.

When chanting the first syllable, bring your attention on your navel region. With the second syllable, move your attention up to the centre of your chest region and finally with the last syllable bring your attention to your forehead region.

Repeat this 3-5 times to start with. Should take you no more than 15 minutes.

While you chant, breathe keep your body relaxed. Don’t tense your shoulders, back or the hip region.

After completing the routine, continue sitting with closed eyes for a bit. Observe. You may wish to journal your experience. You may have something to report. You may have felt different sensations in the body. You may have seen some images or colours. Just note them. Don’t evaluate. Don’t label. Don’t conclude. JUST. OBSERVE.
